SLO Practice

Dog salivating his way into jail

Pluto making a mess of things as he's being brought up on charges of reckless endangerment of food products and people alike. The St. Bernard dog was caught shredding bags of multiple food products as he led a massive chase throughout the grocery store while knocking over displays and children before being taken in by the local animal shelter.

Lenses and Photography Vocabulary

I would use a telephoto lens to... capture wildlife in action as to not disturb them in their natural habitat or for distance buildings/landscapes.

I would use a prime lens to... capture small objects and models.

I would use a wide-angle lens to...
capture architecture or landscape - making sure you capture all of it.

Depth of Field (shallow and wide) - The distance between the nearest and the furthest objects that give an image judged to be in focus in a camera. (allows you to get a sense of distance or being able to focus solely onto the closest object and blur the background)

Light (angle and intensity) - Amount of light used. (makes you think about how much light you should use before taking a photograph and how it hits your object)

Shadows Diffusion - Amount of shadow/darkness captured in photo. (plays around with the idea you can use shadows to your advantage rather than getting rid of them)

Exposure - How much light is allowed to come through. (either darkens or lightens the image depending on how fast or slow your shutter closes)

Aperture (f-stop) -
The smaller the Aperture the more blurry the background is and how the subject is more focused on. The larger the aperture the less blurry the ground becomes and subject is still focused. (you can close in on an object and focus solely on it - if you don't want the background)
Shutter speed - Helps you capture objects moving fast in slow motion. (great help in capture fact objects that normally would be blurry upon shooting - gives you more of an opportunity to take more daring photos)

ISO
- Captures noise in the background, the higher the ISO the more noise in the background, the smaller the ISO the less noise captured. (if you want a grain effect on your photograph or if you want to eliminate the noise)

7 News Value

1) Man slices arms with saws at Calif. Home Depot (Novelty)

Well, surely, you don't hear someone cutting off their own arms everyday - not to mention the dude actually survive in the end ( uh, well, at least made it to surgery in critical condition). If he does survive I'm sure he'll be pretty devastated that he's alive without arms unless they manage to attack them back on again.

2) Runner who collapsed in race released from hospital (Proximity)

It's right in the heart of downtown Austin, also it was published in the evening news earlier this week on Kvue. This goes on saying even though you're healthy and exercise you still have that risk of your heart stopping dead anywhere.

3) Tornado hits near St. Louis as storm wallops Midwest (Timeliness)

Devastating damage by St. Louis due to storms wrecking havoc cross the Midwest in the past day or so. There have been reports of tornadoes causing some injuries but most of all extensive damage to homes as power lines, trees, and debris are thrown and torn apart by the high powered winds.

4)  After suicide attempt, combat veteran finds his voice (Human Interest)

Andrew O'Brien tells his personal struggle over coming back from the military and trying to go back into civilian life as if pretending it never happened, and how close he came to taking his own life. Though it's a conflicting subject to talk about - suicide - he hopes that his old wound will close someone else from taking their life.

5) Brains as Clear as Jell-O for Scientists to Explore (Impact)

Thanks to new innovated technology in the medical field we'll now be able to test the brain over and over again without causing harmful damage and be able to spot mental disorders and diseases more quickly than before.

6) Veteran caught lying about Purple Heart (Conflict)

Odd when just about anyone can lie about gaining something important as the purple heart - that you have to be aware that this could happen - well that's not good.

7) Prominence – the “newsworthiness” of an individual, organization or place.

* The most important story would be "Brain as Clear as Jell-O" and the least important story I guess would be "Man slices arms..." BUT because of that I'll be more aware when I'm walking around Home Depot that anything can happen.
